In January we made use of all those Amazon Prime boxes left over from Christmas and made a submarine, or rocket, or racecar.

This much snow in Oregon would close down school for a week, but we just put boots on and trudged through it to school.
I made a trip to big O tires and got some innertubes for the Sugarhouse Park hills.
CD and I went skiing at Deer Valley during the World Freestyle ski championships and then the whole fam went back up to watch the finals after dark and eat lots of yummy food in the VIP tent since Rockwell was a sponsor.
I can't believe how much he has improved over last year.

Then it was science fair time. Rivers did such a good job picking out a project on her own and making it happen. I of course love me some good science, so it was exciting to me too to see it all turn out. Rivers planted Rye grain seed from Whitney in one of the bottles and put dead matter (leaves, sticks) over the dirt in another bottle, and poured water through them. Then she collected the drainage water, measured the amount of it and observed the water clarity. At the end of 5 trials she also measured the difference in the beginning and ending soil lines to measure erosion. It was so cool how clear the live plant water was and by the end hardly any water drained because the root system had developed so much more.

We went to Savers and found some great snowsuits for $6 each. Dre loved just flopping down in his full body suit.
We spent a lot of time waiting at Rivers' bball practices, so the kids would each pack along a crate of building toys.

I told Rivers since she didn't want to take piano lessons that she had to learn some musical instrument, so she picked the saxophone.

It sounded really fun, but we didn't last long because it was so tiring always picking the little ones up and holding them while they slipped all over trying to get their balance.
I took the kids to Red Butte gardens too in January, and I decided that is the time to go! We literally had the place to ourselves. So the snake maze didn't have any foliage and there weren't flowers out, but it was kinda cool seeing it all under snow.
And it was warm enough to take coats off and bask in the sun with the lizards.
We had the Sprout house to ourselves too, so we read some books....
....and played nature bingo. Fun winter trip.
We also got our energy out at this big indoor bounce house place. Thanks Groupon.

For my birthday we went on a Sunday snow hike that ended up being so fun. We found a perfect ice patch to slide down like we were penguins.
The dramatically opposite part of my birthday involved going up to Park City with Carlos for the last day of the Sundance Film Festival for the Ludacris concert! Ludaaaa!!!
We got to hang out in the VIP area and pretend like we were cool. And Ludacris seemed surprisingly intelligent :)

I know I'm a nerd, but I love making Rivers lunch everyday in her cute little bento box. I love not having to use a million little plastic bags everyday and I can send salad and fruit and good stuff so much easier!

Dreyton reminds me a lot of Tanner, and I swear I have almost this exact picture of little Tanner. Dre is even wearing his retro turtle neck that used to be Carlos'.
CD begged to join the chess club and LOVES it! So here we are at our first chess tournament. It looked pretty cool and there was some serious loot. I loved how CD just marched right in like no biggie. He never seems nervous to try new things even though he is the only kindergartner competing with the team.
Reagan and Dreyton gave their first talks in church and I was so proud of them. They wanted to do it without any help, so we came up with this talk that they each gave alone.

The day after she got her braces, she took second in the district science fair with 21 schools and made it to the Regional science fair. Cute little nerd!
